Moto360 gets Android wear WiFi update

This morning, the Moto360 smartwatch got its Android Wear WiFi update. This is probably the most exciting update so far and could be a real game changer for many Moto360 fans, and those who have been interested in getting one, but wanted to wait until the WiFi (phone-less) functionality was added to the most beautiful smartwatch on the planet today.

We now have confirmation that Android Wear 5.1.1 has started to reach LG’s G Watch and G Watch R today

In a post in its product forums today, Google said that the rollout of the Android 5.1.1 update for Android Wear smartwatches is imminent. And just so, Android Police is reporting that some owners of the LG G Watch and LG G Watch R have already received it. The update adds some great new features, including support for getting notifications on any Wi-Fi network, wrist gestures, and the ability to draw emoji.

The Android Wear 5.1.1. update brings us a number of new features that we have not yet seen before. A number of Android smartwatches have started receiving the over-the-air update today; including the: LG Watch Urbane, the Sony SmartWatch 3, the Samsung Live Gear S and the Moto 360.

Moto 360 smartwatch users can leave their phones at home

The update enables users to leave their smartphones at home, whilst still connected to the internet, and use their beloved Moto360s without having to be connected over bluetooth to the “parent” phone. The moto 360 was released at the end of 2014 and a big success ever since. It is by far the best looking smartwatch on the market. Motorola were the first to launch a round smartwatch, something that had not been done and seen before.

Although the Moto 360 is a sole Android watch, there have been rumours about an iOS app to support a number of simple functionalities, such as take a call, read your hangout messages or check your latest emails. However this latest Android Wear 5.1.1. update does not help iOS users to use their moto 360 to work with their iPhones or iPads. Maybe that is still to come in the near future. We will keep you posted on that.

What does the Android Wear 5.1.1. bring us?
