No new android wear watches from motorola this year

The second-generation Motorola 360 has had market well. We were sincerely hoping that Motorola or any of the other android where competitors would bring out some fantastic new watches this year.

Yet, it appears that this year we won’t be seeing any new by Motorola, Huawei or LG anymore. If you’ve been paying attention to the wearable space over the last few months you may have noticed that there is been no shortage of new android wear devices making their way to market.

Now that Apple has brought out their Apple watch to series and Samsung have delivered the S gear three watches, it appears that the other watchmakers are keeping their new products off the market. CNET has reported that neither LG or Lenovo’s Motorola have plans to release any new smart watches in the remaining months of the year. Maybe that is why it has been awfully quiet around the Motorola 360s 3rd generation Smart watch.

It looks like most of the companies are waiting for the next big push. Tech development has not gone as fast as we would’ve hoped it to go and it looks like the customers are waiting for something special. I think that it’s a good thing that tech companies are holding their product back because they are not fully happy with them. I would rather see a new innovative product by any of these companies then get a simple battery upgrade here.

We can continue to dream about new features and new products that will be brought to market in the next one or two years. I personally do not think that the android ecosystem for smart watches his dead at all. We are just taking a short break from the regular release cycles. And I am happy to see that we are not being forced to buy some Half baked product that nobody really wants to have.

At the end of the day this will help us keep a healthy ecosystem around smart watches and secure the longevity of this product group. We all know that we love our Moto360!

Problems pairing moto360 with iphone 7

There appeared to be some problems with the Motorola 360 Second generation. The issue at hand at the moment is that the Moto 360 cannot be connected to the iPhone seven. The online magazine the verge has reported that there appear to be some issues with the fossil Q and the Moto 360 to pair with the iPhone seven and the iPhone 7+.

Owners like myself of the android Smart watch have able to use their Smart watches with iPhone devices since Apple added iOS support back in August of last year.

Apple already seems to have had some problems with the release of IOS 10.0 and android watches. Google says that it is aware of the serious pairing issues.

Apple does not lets users fully use the IOS system on their android watches, but you can show some notifications on your watch if you would like. Maybe this was a problem that Apple was not aware of before releasing the iPhone seven or their new software version. The android compatibility has been a little bit of a problem child for Apple.

Although the market for smartwatches is predominantly dominated by android devices, Apple does not seem to care much about this ecosystem. We do hope that Apple will step up the game and help android users use their smart watches a lot better than they are doing at the moment. The android Smart watches simply look a lot better than the ones that Apple are producing at the moment.

Android Smart watches are faster, better looking, and better value for money than the Apple watch. Lets let’s hope that they fix this problem soon. We will keep you posted!

Waiting for Moto360 Gen 3

Most of us are eager to see the Moto360 in its third generation this year. The Moto 360 was one of the most sought after smartwatches of 2013, 2014 and 2015 – but failed to innovate in the last 12 months.

Most of us have been hoping for a long awaited update for quite some time now. The IFA in Berlin 2016 was our biggest hope so far, but we have not seen anything new from Lenovo so far.

A few things that we would love to see on the Moto360’s third generation smartwatch are features such as LTE support, GPS, finally get rid of the flat tire at the bottom of the screen, better and stronger battery life… and much more.

With some blogs claiming the Moto360 will come at a price of round about 400 dollars, we might just be in for a treat once it does drop. Lets hope we will get some more infos on the latest Moto360 some time soon.

The Motorola 360 Smartwatch was one of the most significant smart watch introductions in 2013 . Although the Apple watch got the most media attention and was probably the Smart watch that had the highest impact in the world it was not quite as innovative as the Lenovo Motorola 360.

Smart watches have become hot selling items in recent years. The most important smart watch on the market is the Apple watch. Although their are a legion of smart watches on the market today that mostly run on android.

We will keep you posted. We will continue to follow all the developments on the market in the months to come. And we hope that the that we will see a few fantastic product improvements.

The smart watch market has been a little quiet in 2016. But that doesn’t mean that nothing special is up-and-coming. Some producers such as Garmin and tom-tom have brought out some interesting Smart watches. Most of them are still focused on sports and not so much casual wear. Smart watches as an accessory or a tool for everyday use are still not that common.

It is little hard for me to understand whether this is due to the fact that the software is the bad or the battery life time of these products is simply not there where it should be.

Maybe it is something else? The early adoption rate of smart watches, especially after the introduction of the Apple watch, was quite high yet the market appears to have reached a ceiling in the very rapid rate. It appears that most young early adopters use they’re smart watches, but it’s not the only watch that they wear on a daily basis. Most watch owners use traditional watches as well as their smart watches.

The Apple watch did not seem to fit the bill for everyone, but as long as Apple and Google continue to invest Smart watches as a whole, we think that there will be quite a few product innovations in the years to come. Especially in the medical Space, as well as with a clear focus on the elderly. Health tracking and in-depth analysis of Health features Will help us better understand how are body functions and how we can prevent common diseases in the years to come.

Maybe it would help the tech industry to stop focusing on cool young audiences that only use these watches as the fashion items, but to focus more on those people that really have a need for products such as these. Of course we are not going to be able to produce one product that fits for everyone, but as a lifestyle product the smartwatch is simply not good enough at the moment.

Therefore we cannot wait to see what the next generation of Lenovo 360s will bring us…

Lenovo Teases new Moto360 Gen. 3

At the end of this month, IFA 2016 will kick off in Berlin. One of the companies scheduled to make a splash is Lenovo. It has only been a couple of months since Lenovo’s last event, where we saw the  Motorola Moto Z and Moto Z Force unveiled. Lenovo is teasing even more new stuff for IFA.

Innovation is one of the hardest things to do in Tech, yet gradual changes seem to be taking longer than ever at the moment in the world of smart watches

The video above specifically mentions new Moto Mods, tablets, and a 3rd-gen Moto 360. The slogan for Lenovo’s presentation this year is “devices that blur the lines of creativity and productivity.” That doesn’t give us many clues about the new devices, but when have marketing slogans been anything but cryptic? One thing we could see is the camera Mod that showed up in leaked renders before the launch of the Moto Z.

It would also be cool to see more about the bendable tablet and phone that Lenovo showed off at Tech World in June. What are you looking to see from Lenovo? Are you waiting for the next Moto 360? We have been waiting for the next generation Moto 360 for quite some time now. In a world of technical innovations, it is not that easy to understand why it is taking Lenovo this long to come up with a new product.

Maybe it is because smart watches are still in a niche market.

Lenovo has been one of the most innovative companies on the market today with their the Foldable laptops and beautifully designed tablets. Yet wearables are not something that they have been very good at so far. The last generation smart watch was brought out by Motorola and not by Lenovo so we will have to see whether Lenovo Will be able to live up to the expectations and especially the innovation expectations that the fanboys have for the smart watches today.

The IFA in Berlin has gotten off to a great start. We are still waiting for Smart watch introductions by Lenovo though. As soon as we find some more information on the future of smart watches that will come out and be brought out by Lenovo, we will post it right here on Moto360-guide.com.

Zenwatch 3 has same flat tire as Moto360

At the IFA in Berlin this week, ASUS showed off its new Zenwatch 3. It is very similar to the Moto 360 and comes in a round design for the first time.

Interestingly enough, the Zenwatch 3 has the same black strip at the bottom of the screen as the Moto360’s. A design flaw that ASUS did not manage to fix either, or did not want to and bought the same round faces as Motorola did. For the Moto360 this is great news, but I do hope that someone will manage to fix this little design flaw and issue.

To all of those at ASUS, welcome to 2012 / The Moto360 did what you guys just put on the market a few years ago already… Nothing innovative, nothing new, nothing cool about the ASUS Zenwatch 3. All in all… Just a big disappointment.

Huawei’s New Android Wear Smartwatch Rivals the Moto 360 2nd Gen

Moto360 sport for only 200 Dollars

Motorola’s fitness-focused smartwatch, the Moto 360 Sport, is quite the workout buddy. It can track your distance, running pace, time, calories burned and much more. It might not be the sleekest Android Wear device out there, but it’s definitely the best Android smartwatch available for tracking your daily exercises.

It can now be yours for only 200 Dollars. It used to be 99 Dollars more expensive, but Motorola has decided to drop the price dramatically in the United States.

Our friends in India will also not need to wait much longer anymore. The Moto 360 Sport will be launched April 26th. This is by far the best Android Sports Watch that is available on the market today. Be sure to get your hands on one.

Moto 360 works om iOS

The New iOS Android Wear app is now available on the AppStore. One thing that was unclear though, was whether it would work with the first generation Moto 360.

And yes it does!

The only thing you need to do is update your Moto 360 to the latest android wear 1.3. Version and pair it up with your iPhone. It should work beautifully. I have not been able to see what it is that you cannot do compared to the supported LG Urbane or Asus Zen 2 watches.

Google claimed that they wanted to make this iOS app work with supported new smart watches on which it would work out of the box – ignoring the Moto 360. However, it seems to work just fine.

How to solve Battery Drainage Issues Android 5.1.1. on Moto 360

The Android 5.1.1. update brought a lot of fantastic features to Android Wear devices, such as wifi connectivity, an entirely new look and wrist gesture control.

All android wear devices felt brand new. The Android Wear 5.1.1. update lets most devices run a lot smoother than before and gave all smartwatches running it an entirely new competitive edge.

Issues after the update – battery drainage

Right after the release, we reported that the Moto 360 was suffering from strong battery drainage issues. The issues seemed to be related to the wifi connectivity and we started running some tests.

How did we go about testing: very simply and unscientifically – we turned all running apps on and off and monitored the battery drainage after each change for 15 minutes in idle mode, and for 15 minutes “playing around” with the Moto 360.

Long story short, I think we have found the root cause of the problem – and it is two-fold.

How to solve your battery issues

The first thing you need to do is: un-install all applications on your smartwatch/phone before running the Android 5.1.1. update. Any apps that are not fully compliant with the new software update, will drain your watch like mad.

After un-installing Evernote, Asana and most importantly IFTTT, and THEN updating the Moto 360, it ran smoothly. The battery drainage had gone down significantly (uplift of >55%). This could be due to the fact that these applications use location based services and continuous updates. These continuous updates are a huge strain on the device.

Turn off the wifi functionality when your phone is near

When your phone is not far away, in the same network – then you do not need the wifi connectivity. The Moto 360 will start to toggle between wifi and bluetooth and search for both channels and connections without stopping.

We have noticed that when you are in the same network as your smartwatch, the battery is fully depleted within 3-4 hours. And that is under normal regular usage.

There is an option in the Moto 360 settings that lets you choose for how long you would like to stay connected when the wifi connection is not used (your watch is idle). Turn this to the smallest possible interval (15 minutes). What will happen if you don’t is that your watch will continue to hold the wifi connection upright – and if you are running apps like IFTTT, it could really be a strain on your device.

When you set it to connect only when you “want it to”, so when you are not in constant need of being updated every single minute. It will help your battery longevity tremendously.

Android Wear 5.1.2 update (fix) on its way

Google have confirmed on the developer forum that there are some issues with the wifi connectivity on Android Wear and that they are working on a fix for the issues that have started popping up.

Is was said before that the wifi issues on the Moto 360 were the reason that the roll out of Android Wear 5.1.1. got to it later than most other smartwatches. We do not know if this is due to the older hardware in the Moto 360, especially the processor, that might have give this version some technical limitations or if it is because of something else.

The Moto 360 2 should fix all of these problems, come with a far superior processor chip inside and generally better hardware to handle the requests at all times.

I hope that these tips will help you “solve” your battery drainage issues – and I will keep you posted on new software developments and fixes.

How to set actions on your Moto 360 mini tutorial

Actions determine which applications are used when you give your smartwatch a certain command. For example: there are two health and fitness apps on the Moto 360, the Moto Body Heart Rate app and Google Fit.

Let me show you how to change the default settings to use one of the two apps to measure your heart rate.

How to change the Actions Application settings on Android Wear

Changing the settings is not all that difficult and straight forward to do using the Android Wear app. I have installed the Android Wear app on my Nexus 5 – as you can see in the screenshots below.

Step 1. open the Android Wear app (scroll down)

In the main interface of the Android Wear app, you will find a section all the way at the bottom of the page, where you can see a number of standard actions – shortcuts as you might call them. These actions can be triggered by voice command or in the actions “shortcut” menu of the Android Wear watch – this shows up when you say: “Okay Google”.

Android Wear App Watch Apps

You will find a full list of all the actions that you can take when you click on the button labelled MORE ACTIONS. You should see a screen that looks something like this:

All actions android wear screenshot

I will continue to show you how to select the right tool to measure your heart rate.

Step 2. select the action you would like to change

To select the correct app to measure your heart rate, click on the show my heart rate icon. The icon that is currently shown is the one that is being used at the moment.

select an app to measure hear rate moto 360I have decided to stick to the Google Fit app. Don’t ask me why, but I just simply like the sound of that more than the Moto Body Heart Rate, which sounds so technical.

Now once you have selected the right one, it will show up in the list of apps that you are using. If anything changes, you will get a short haptic feedback in the form of a vibration on your smartwatch. If you don’t change anything, things will simply stay the way it is and “saving” the options will not trigger any further actions.

Step 3. give it a shot and tell your watch to measure your heart rate

Say: “Okay Google” to open the settings on your watch and start speaking. You can either say: “Show me my heart rate” or scroll down a little and click on the text that says <Show me my heart rate> (yes I know that sounds obvious, but sometimes it is quicker to click on something than to say it out loud, especially when there is a lot of background noise or you are in a busy office.

open actions on google now

Step 4. wait and watch the magic happen

It might take a few seconds, but the heart rate check should start immediately. The result should look something like this in the picture below.

There have been rumours about the fact that the Moto 360 heart rate monitor is not that strong and precise as it could be. Just like the Apple Watch, it has a problem dealing with tattooed arms (wrists) and the results vary significantly.

I personally have not had any trouble with the heart rate sensor of the Moto 360 and it works perfectly fine. You do have to make sure that there is a close contact between your wrist (skin) and the back of the watch. The light sensors are at at the bottom of the watch.

Summary mini tutorial how to change the watch actions / shortcuts

The shortcuts can be very helpful and the actions dictate exactly which app to open when you say a certain command or use one of the pre-set commands that are available on Android Wear.

This can be very helpful if you are using multiple note taking apps, or sports tracking apps. Maybe you always want the app to start tracking your runs on Runtastic instead of Endomondo.

If you think this mini tutorial was helpful, feel free to share it or leave a short comment at the bottom. Looking for information on other features of the Moto 360, and/or Android Wear – let me know what you would like to find out and I will see what I can do for you.
